Kantara Chapter 1 has taken the country by storm once again. After ruling theatres for weeks and becoming the year’s biggest Indian blockbuster, the film has finally completed its long-awaited digital rollout. Fans who were waiting to watch the prequel to the 2022 phenomenon can now stream the Hindi version on OTT giant, closing an eight-week wait that felt much longer for many. With its massive box-office run and strong reception across languages, the prequel has cemented itself as one of the year’s biggest cultural moments.
Kantara Chapter 1, directed by Rishab Shetty, didn’t just match the hype of the original film released in 2022. It soared past expectations and collected more than Rs 815 crores worldwide across all languages, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Critics praised its storytelling, and audiences embraced its mythological world with the same enthusiasm that defined the first film’s rise.
The movie began streaming on Prime Video on October 31, following the standard four-week theatrical window. The Hindi version arrived much later, sticking to the Multiplex Association of India’s guidelines by landing on OTT exactly eight weeks after its theatrical run began. This delay only built more anticipation, especially because the dubbed Hindi version had become a powerful force at the box office.
The Hindi release played a major role in pushing the film’s total collections to record levels. Its success in the northern belt proved how wide the appeal of Kantara’s universe has become, transcending language and region.
The film features Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead, with Jayaram and Gulshan Devaiah delivering important performances. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films, the action-drama is layered with mystical and divine elements that have become a hallmark of the franchise. Ajaneesh Loknath’s music adds another dimension, deepening the world-building and spiritual themes.
