Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has directed the Disaster Management department to provide the details on the weak and dilapidated structures, including schools and hospitals, in the State within two weeks.

Speaking at a high-level meeting held in this regard in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), the Chief Minister said those structures that need to be demolished and those that need to be repaired should be provided separately.

School buildings should be demolished on holidays. Local self-government bodies, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the Education department should find an alternative to conduct classes until the demolished school buildings are built, he said.

The Chief Minister also directed to assess the safety of unaided school buildings in the State along with this exercise.

A software will be developed to record details of public buildings in danger. An inspection system comprising the Chief Electrical Officer and electrical engineers from the Local Self-Government department and the Public Works department should be formed to inspect matters related to electrical, he said.

Revenue Minister K. Rajan, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal, Public Works Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas, General Education Minister V. Sivankutty, Health Minister Veena George, Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, officials and District Collectors were present at the meeting.
