LSU piled up victories in the 2024 season, but the season ended with an unfortunate Elite 8 loss. The Tigers finished 31-6 overall and 12-4 in conference play. However, the Elite 8 loss to UCLA in Spokane was a tight 72-65 defeat.
As Kim Mulkey looks ahead, the roster is in flux. The Tigers have eight newcomers join the squad, and there are no returning post players. Mulkey has, however, rebuilt since, and names have been added to the roster.
The biggest name to be added is MiLaysia Fulwiley, who came to Baton Rouge after making big numbers with LSU’s SEC rival, South Carolina.
MiLaysia Fulwiley Faces New Challenges at LSU as She Steps Into PG Role, Says Kim Mulkey
LSU’s most talked-about offseason addition is not just playing in a different jersey this upcoming season. She is also stepping into a new role as a point guard. Mulkey has been testing her there in practice, while also letting her play off the ball, the position she was brilliant at with South Carolina.
“As you’d expect when you haven’t played point guard at this level, I’m sure her head is spinning,” Mulkey told On3, acknowledging Fulwiley’s challenge. “But I don’t want to take her away from the off guard either, because she’s so good at improvising during the game and making spectacular plays.”

In other words, Mulkey is trying to strike a balance. She wants to get Fulwiley running the offense while preserving the creativity and scoring that made her a Sixth Woman of the Year at South Carolina.
With the Gamecocks, Fulwiley was a key contributor off the bench, averaging 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in just under 19 minutes per game. She was brilliant in transition, hitting 43.2% from the field and 30.2% from three.
Fulwiley scored 23 points against Maryland in the NCAA Tournament while guiding South Carolina to back-to-back national championship games. While the transition is tough on Fulwiley, Mulkey added, “She’s easy to coach, and she said it best: ‘I’ve never worked this hard in my life.’”

That drive will be crucial as Fulwiley adapts to LSU’s guard-heavy lineup, which includes Mikaylah Williams and Flau’jae Johnson. Mulkey emphasized that Fulwiley’s growth at point guard will also depend on teammates like Jada Richard and Divine Bourrage, who can handle the ball and help her adjust to leading the offense.
Stepping into the point guard role means reading defenses, knowing teammates’ tendencies, and acting as the coach on the floor. Mulkey is confident Fulwiley can thrive. If all goes well, Fulwiley could fill a key spot in the Tigers’ rotation and redefine how LSU’s backcourt operates this season.
LSU tips off the season on November 4, 2025, against Houston Christian and is set for a high-stakes showdown with South Carolina on February 14. They end their regular season on March 1 with a match against Mississippi State.
