Krispy Kreme has announced a new limited-edition Harry Potter-inspired doughnut collection set to launch within days.

Four of the new doughnuts will pay tribute to the Hogwarts houses in author J.K. Rowling‘s books—Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Another doughnut will be inspired by the Sorting Hat, which determines the houses that each new student is allocated to.

A new latte drink will be based on the Golden Snitch, the winged ball used in the game of Quidditch.

Why It Matters

The new Harry Potter collection comes amid other seasonal promotions —including several pumpkin spice offerings launched earlier this month.

The seasonal promotions come at a time of significant competition in the fast food industry, which faces slim margins and changing consumer habits amid economic uncertainty.

  • Slytherin doughnut—an original glazed doughnut with chocolate and green buttercream flavored swirls, a sprinkle of chocolate cookie sugar and the Slytherin crest.
  • Hufflepuff doughnut—an unglazed shell doughnut filled with brown butter toffee-flavored custard and yellow icing, covered with a black chocolate drizzle and a crunchy cookie topping.
  • Ravenclaw doughnut—an original glazed doughnut with blueberry icing, sprinkles and the Ravenclaw crest.
  • Sorting Hat doughnut—an unglazed shell doughnut filled with a surprise house-colored Kreme representing one of the Hogwarts houses, dipped in chocolate flavored icing, and covered in gold stars, gold shimmer sugar and a sorting hat.
  • Golden Snitch latte—a caramel toffee inspired latte, topped with whipped cream, Biscoff crunchy cookie crumble and a sprinkle of golden shimmer sugar.

Krispy Kreme is hosting a Houses of Hogwarts day on August 23, when customers who come to participating stores in their favorite Harry Potter costumes could receive a free original glazed doughnut.

What People Are Saying

Alison Holder, chief brand and product officer for Krispy Kreme, said in a statement: “We’re channeling the beloved magic of Harry Potter and the Houses of Hogwarts for a collection that is truly bewitching. But the magic is fleeting, and so are these doughnuts, so don’t miss your chance to try them!”

What Happens Next

The new doughnuts will be available in shops, drive-thrus and online for pickup and delivery from August 18 until September 14 at participating locations in the U.S. and Canada.
