‘Let Dan Run the Show on Offense’ — Calls Mount for Lions to ‘Fire’ OC John Morton As Fans React to Dan Campbell Calling Plays

Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions took to Landover this weekend to face the Washington Commanders for Week 10 action, and Lions’ offensive coordinator John Morton came under fire after the game. While the Lions beat the Commanders 44-22, the fact that Campbell called the plays on offense instead of Morton resulted in the OC getting bashed online.

Let’s take a look at what fans had to say after the Lions’ victory over the Commanders.

Lions OC John Morton Faces Online Criticism After Detroit’s Victory

Coach Campbell called an extremely good game against a very strong defense. His offense dominated the time of possession with 32:36 minutes to 27:24 for the Commanders. Detroit also had more than twice as many first downs as Washington, while Campbell’s offense totaled 546 yards over the Commanders’ 288.

The Lions’ offensive explosion was led by quarterback Jared Goff, who threw three touchdown passes, and running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who found the end zone three times in the dominant performance. Detroit scored on its first 22 points unanswered and never looked back, improving its record to 6-3 on the season.

The efficiency of Campbell’s play calls saw Morton facing backlash for his play-calling online, with one fan saying:

“John Morton better not call plays for rest of the year, and in offseason fire him and we don’t need OC let Dan run the show on offense.”

Motorcade alluded to how Morton’s play-calling doesn’t measure up to that of the Lions’ head coach.

“FIRE JOHN MORTON NOW!!!!! DAN CAMPBELL MASTERCLASS!!!!” he tweeted.

All that many fans want is for the offensive coordinator to never call plays again.

“NEVER GIVE JOHN MORTON THE PLAY BOOK EVER AGAIN,” Hypersonic posted.

Kat simply said:

“FIRE JOHN MORTON.”

Praise went all around for Campbell’s play-calling, which made Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury look like he was looking for parking.

“Bro fire John Morton at this point Dan Campbell called a hell of a game,” Adam wrote.

Another user noted the effectiveness of using Lions wideout Jameson Williams in slant-crosser patterns, which Morton couldn’t capitalize on.

“Jamo slant/crossers is just the most obvious recipe for success ever,” they said.

“And john morton couldn’t figure that out let that settle in just fire him,” another replied.

Playing with backup quarterback Marcus Mariota didn’t help the Commanders’ efforts. They struggled to keep pace with a Detroit offense that scored in double digits in all of the first three quarters.

While the Lions scored 14 points on them in the first quarter, they could only respond with three. Their seven points in the second quarter were nullified by the Lions’ 11, and their 6-point third period couldn’t keep up with Detroit’s total 10.

By the fourth quarter, when the Lions scored nine and the Commanders six, the game was already over.
