This weekend, the Minnesota Vikings are heading to Detroit to take on the Lions at Ford Field.
Ahead of that game, one of Detroit’s biggest superstars made sure he will be causing problems for the Vikings for years to come as Aidan Hutchinson signed a massive new contract.

<p>Aidan Hutchinson inked a new four-year contract worth $180 million with the Lions on Wednesday, locking him down in Detroit through the 2030 season.</p>
<p>Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the news, <a href=)
tweeting, “The #Lions and star edge Aidan Hutchinson have agreed to terms on a 4-year, mega-extension, according to his agent @MikeMcCartney7. It’s a 4-year, $180M deal with $141M guarantee. Another star edge rusher paid.”
The deal means Hutchinson, per Spotrac, has the second-largest total contract among all edge rushers, behind only Micah Parsons’ $186 million deal with the Green Bay Packers, and ties Kirk Cousins for the 16th-largest deal in the NFL.

<p>In terms of guaranteed money, though, no defender is getting more than Hutchinson’s $141 million, and it’s the same story for all non-quarterbacks.</p>
<p>Hutchinson’s contract is well worth the investment, though. Through his first ~3.5 seasons, the pass rusher has totaled 36 tackles for loss and 34.5 sacks despite missing all but five games in 2024 due to injury. This year, he is on track to put up another double-digit sack campaign, totaling six through Detroit’s first seven games.</p>
<p>The contract also means Detroit’s core group of players is signed for multiple seasons to come. Take a look at the names on this list and the year their contracts will end:</p>

<li>Jameson Williams: Signed through 2029</li>

<li>Alim McNeill: Signed through 2028</li>
</ul>
<p>It’s a result of great drafting as all of these players outside of Jared Goff were originally drafted by Detroit. Goff, of course, was acquired via trade following the 2020 season from the Los Angeles Rams.</p>
