New details have emerged in the tragic drowning death of actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
In a post shared on Facebook by Caribbean Guard, a volunteer lifeguard organization in Costa Rica, the group described attempts made to save the 54-year-old from the troubling waters. The original upload is written in Spanish and was translated by VIBE using an online generator.
“We deeply regret the death of Malcolm Jamal Warner at Playa Grande. He was swept away by a strong rip current and died from drowning,” shared the statement. “Everything happened very quickly, and despite people on the beach who came to rescue him, they didn’t arrive in time. He was pulled underwater with no vital signs, and despite CPR being administered on the beach.”
It continued to detail, “Playa Grande is one of our most challenging beaches. It’s a beach known for local surfers, and there are signs (in English and Spanish) warning of the danger of death from drowning. It’s a beach that the Caribbean Guard has patrolled for the past few years. However, they weren’t patrolling it this Sunday. Due to the recent aquatic incidents at Playa Negra, we have allocated resources there and to Chiquita, another iconic beach, due to its rip currents.”

The Cosby Show star’s death was announced on Monday (July 21), with confirmation that he passed away due to drowning. An outpour of love and respect from his Hollywood peers trickled onto social media as the news spread.
