Citing a desire to prevent irreparable harm and to ensure that Tata Trusts wasn’t plunged into controversy, Mistry retracts legal caveat after trustees reject his reappointment

Mehli Mistry
Mehli Mistry, whose reappointment to Tata Trusts was voted down by a majority, is understood to have withdrawn the caveat to be heard, filed with the Charity Commissioner in Mumbai, sources said.
A few days after his reappointment as trustee was rejected, Mistry had filed a caveat with the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner, seeking a hearing against his removal by Tata Trusts. Mistry’s term as trustee ended on October 28.
However soon after he decided not to challenge his removal and in a letter to the Trusts chair, said he had a responsibility to ensure that Tata Trusts was not plunged into controversy and precipitating matters would cause it irreparable harm.
His move to withdraw the caveat follows this decision.
Separately, Tata Trusts is also understood to have initiated the process to file the change report with the Charity Commissioner, following the removal of Mistry, according to sources aware of developments.
There has been no response so far from Mistry and Noel Tata’s office to emails sent seeking clarification.
