MIXI secures majority stake in PointsBet as final takeover offer nears deadline

A change in ownership within the Australian and Canadian betting industries is indicated by the fact that PointsBet is now a controlled entity and subsidiary of MIXI, having secured this majority holding on September 5th.

Any chance for rival bidder Betr Entertainment to acquire a majority stake has been immediately terminated by the milestone. The deadline for MIXI’s final takeover offer is September 12th.

Shareholders of PointsBet who agree before this date will receive payment in line with MIXI’s previously stated plan.

The MIXI Takeover Details

The cash offer for MIXI’s acquisition, which is estimated to be worth AUD 402m (~£195 million), is AUD 1.25 (~£0.61) per PointsBet share, with the potential to rise to AUD 1.30 (~£0.63) if MIXI’s holding surpasses 90%.

Competing bids and changing suggestions from PointsBet’s board have been part of the takeover process throughout 2025.

The leadership of PointsBet continuously advised shareholders to support MIXI’s cash deal, citing greater certainty and existing regulatory approvals, even in the face of Betr’s most recent all-share offer, which valued PointsBet at AUD 1.40 (£0.68) per share.

The Australian Foreign Investment Review Board and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario approved MIXI’s bid, eliminating significant regulatory barriers.

MIXI has stated that it will run PointsBet as an independent, MIXI-controlled company and has categorically rejected the notion of any future cooperation or integration with Betr.

As the acceptance period comes to an end this week, the deal will be entering its final stages.

Following a fiercely competitive takeover saga, MIXI’s majority ownership will alter PointsBet’s course and might strengthen MIXI’s presence across Australia and Canada.
