New York City mayoral election winner Zohran Mamdani walked out to a Bollywood track.
Andrew Cuomo has called on Republicans to unite behind him to “save” New York City from what he described as the “extremist” agenda of his opponent, Zohran Mamdani.
Welcoming Donald Trump’s endorsement, Cuomo said it was “very helpful” to his mayoral campaign. He attacked Mamdani as a “radical socialist” who would bring socialism to the city.
“He is telling them the reality of the situation, which is, ‘If you do not vote, Mamdani is going to win,’” Cuomo told Fox News.
Trump, in his endorsement, said he would “much rather see a Democrat, who has had a record of success, WIN, than a Communist with no experience and a record of COMPLETE AND TOTAL FAILURE.”

NYC Mayor Election 2025 Live Updates: Trump says any Jew voting for Mamdani is ‘stupid’
US President Donald Trump has stirred fresh controversy in the New York City mayoral race, declaring that any Jewish voter supporting Zohran Mamdani is a “stupid person.”
Trump accused Mamdani of being a “proven and self-professed Jew hater,” even though Mamdani has repeatedly pledged to boost funding for investigations into anti-Semitic incidents and enjoys backing from several Jewish organisations and political leaders, according to NBC.
New Yorkers elected leftist Zohran Mamdani as their next mayor Tuesday, US networks projected, on a day of key local votes across the country offering the first electoral judgement of Donald Trump’s tumultuous second White House term.
New York voted on Tuesday (November 4, 2025) to elect its next mayor — the first major election since Donald Trump’s return to the White House for a second term. The main contenders are Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani and independent candidate, former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani, 34, a self-described democratic socialist, has emerged as the frontrunner, drawing sharp attacks from Trump, who has thrown his weight behind Cuomo. “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Polling opened at 6:00 am (4:30 pm IST) and will close at 9:00 pm (7:30 am IST). According to the latest AtlasIntel poll, Mamdani leads with 41 percent, followed by Cuomo at 34 percent, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa at 24 percent — a gap that could narrow if Sliwa’s supporters swing behind Cuomo.
If elected, Mamdani would become New York City’s first Muslim mayor and its youngest in decades, marking a historic political shift. His campaign has focused on lowering living costs and promoting economic equality — issues that have struck a chord with working-class voters.
Cuomo, 67, is attempting a political comeback four years after resigning as governor amid sexual harassment allegations. His supporters argue he represents experienced leadership and a centrist alternative to what they describe as Mamdani’s “radical agenda.”
Sliwa, 71, founder of the Guardian Angels crime patrol, has centred his campaign on public safety and law enforcement. A victory for him would make a Republican the mayor of America’s largest city for the first time in decades — a potential pushback against Trump’s critics.
Trump has repeatedly targeted Mamdani, branding him “the face of the radical Democratic left” and warning that his leadership would spell “disaster” for the city. On the eve of the vote, Trump urged Sliwa supporters to rally behind Cuomo, calling it the only way to “save New York.”
