The Baltimore Orioles and San Diego Padres reached an agreement on a multi-player trade ahead of Thursday’s deadline that will bolster the San Diego lineup with a 2025 All-Star.

In addition to designated hitter/first baseman/outfielder Ryan O’Hearn, the Orioles will send veteran outfielder Ramon Laureano to the San Diego Padres, according to multiple reports. The teams have yet to confirm the trade.

Robert Murray of FanSided.com was the first to report O’Hearn was part of the trade on Twitter/X. Jon Heyman of the New York Post was the first to report Laureano’s inclusion in the deal. According to Dennis Lin of The Athletic, the Padres will include left-handed pitcher Boston Bateman among their prospect package going to the Orioles.

The MLB trade deadline falls at 6 p.m. ET Thursday.

The Padres have had a busy day. In acquiring All-Star closer Mason Miller from the Athletics and catcher Freddy Fermin from the Kansas City Royals, general manager AJ Preller has traded his top prospect (shortstop Leo de Vries) as well as major league starters Ryan Bergert and Stephen Kolek.

The Orioles have been busy, too. Veteran center fielder Cedric Mullins has been traded to the New York Mets. Reliever Andrew Kittredge is going to the Chicago Cubs.

And both teams might not be done yet.

Laureano can plug into the left-field vacancy the Padres have been attempting to fill all season. He’ll give San Diego a stout defensive outfield, flanked by Jackson Merrill in center field and Gold Glove Award winner Fernando Tatis Jr. in right.

O’Hearn, 32, has seen time at first base, left field, right field and designated hitter amid a breakout season in Baltimore. He’s slashing .283/.374/.463 in his eighth major league season, giving the Padres the left-handed bat they were seeking ahead of the deadline.

While the Orioles’ teardown was expected — they’re 50-59 in the hypercompetitive American League East — the Padres have made an even louder statement about their 2025 World Series ambitions.

San Diego (60-49) trails the Los Angeles Dodgers (63-46) by three games in the National League West and leads the Cincinnati Reds (57-52) by three games in the race for the third and final NL Wild Card berth.
