When the New England Patriots took the field for practice ͏inside Gillette Stadium this week, one name remained conspicuously absent: Rhamondre Stevenso͏n. With uncertainty swirling around͏ the͏ team’s backfield, fans and analysts alike are beginning to͏ wonder whether the Patriots’ lead͏ running ͏back will be available for their ͏crucial Week 9 matchup͏ against͏ the ͏Atlanta Falcons.
Rhamondre Stevenson Injury Update
Stevenson has missed three straight practices this week. On Friday, ESPN͏’s M͏ik͏e Reiss reported: “The Patriots huddle before practice inside Gillette ͏Stadium,͏ and there is no sign ͏of RB Rh͏amondre Stevenso͏n (toe) for the third͏ ͏straight day͏.”
It is a troubling pattern for a player who has been one of the team’s ͏few consistent offensive weapons this ͏season.
This ongoing string of missed practices suggested that the running back is likely to be sidelined for Sunday’s matchup against the Falcons. Later on Friday, it was confirmed that Stevenson will not play in Week 9 due to the toe injury.

“Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Falcons due to his toe injury,” wrote NFL insider Adam Schefter.
TreVeyon Henderson is now expected to take on a larger workload, with Terrell Jennings mixing in. The Patriots also have D’Ernest Johnson, Jonathan Ward, and Rushawn Baker available on the practice squad, a depth chart that may need to be tapped sooner rather than later.

Jason Katz of PFSN observed that Stevenson’s absence in the middle of the week was surprising, given that he had maintained full health throughout the 2025 season up to this point.
His consecutive missed practices have raised alarms about the true extent of the injury. Stevenson has been a workhorse since Antonio Gibson’s season-ending ACL injury, handling over 70 percent of the Patriots’ offensive snaps in recent weeks.
Adding to the intrigue, Katz pointed out that the Patriots’ roster activity this week may hint at deeper concerns. The team signed running back Terrell Jennings to the active roster on Wednesday, a move that rarely happens without an underlying issue.
Katz observed that the Patriots’ recent roster activity raises real concern about Stevenson’s health, noting that the team’s decision to shuffle its backfield and bring in D’Ernest Johnson from Arizona’s practice squad may signal deeper issues than they have publicly acknowledged.
Although head coach Mike Vrabel referred to Jennings’ promotion as “probably procedural,” his additional remark that “we all want Terrell here” implied the team might be anticipating the need for extra depth at running back.
Adding a statistical perspective, data from PFSN’s RB Impact metric shows that Stevenson holds an RB Impact Score of 63.8 for the 2025 season, earning a grade of D and ranking 43rd among all running backs this year.
Through eight games, he has logged 83 rushing attempts ͏for 2͏79 ͏yards ͏and three touchdowns, averaging 3.4 yards per carry, along with 16 receptions in the ͏passing game. Whi͏le those ͏numbers reflect steady involvement, they also underscore how valuable ͏his role is to a struggling Patriots offense, making his͏ potential absence even more concerning.͏
With Stevenson out, the Patriots’ offense faces a steep challenge against the Falcons, one that could test the depth and adaptability of its young backfield.
