[Update] Radisson Hotel Group has taken a significant step towards its commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2050, with the launch of its first two Verified Net Zero hotels. The Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre and the Radisson RED Oslo City Centre have successfully met the 2040 requirements of the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels, focusing on eliminating carbon emissions from energy, operations, and supply chains.
Net Zero actions and sustainable operations
Both hotels have implemented comprehensive sustainability measures to reduce their carbon footprint across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. These efforts include the use of 100% renewable energy sourced from local grids and the electrification of hotel functions such as heating, cooling, and cooking. The Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, for example, has installed heat pumps and fully electrified its kitchen, eliminating gas usage. The Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, on the other hand, benefits from renewable electricity and district heating powered by waste treatment and data centers in Oslo.
“To introduce the Radisson brand to this vibrant and buzzing city is a very exciting moment. What’s more, we are immensely proud to achieve Verified Net Zero status, proving our dedication to delivering the pinnacle of sustainable hotel stays. Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre is more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination where guests can relax, rejuvenate and experience the best that Manchester has to offer with a minimal environmental impact.” – Jens Brandin, General Manager of Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel
In line with Radisson Hotel Group’s sustainability goals, the hotels have also adopted waste-reducing measures, including food waste management systems and the use of bulk bathroom amenities to reduce plastic waste. Furthermore, both properties focus on reducing the carbon impact of their food offerings by implementing low-carbon menus, with clear labels informing guests about the carbon footprint of dishes.

Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre
Both hotels combine eco-conscious practices with a strong emphasis on comfort and guest experience. The Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre features a modern, Scandinavian-inspired design with 252 rooms, an outdoor terrace, a spa, and state-of-the-art event facilities. Located near key attractions like the AO Arena and Manchester Victoria station, the hotel caters to both leisure and business travelers.
In addition to energy use, Radisson Hotel Group has partnered with Klimato to develop low-carbon menus for its Verified Net Zero properties. These menus focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients, reducing carbon footprints by up to 40% without compromising on taste. Guests are informed of each dish’s carbon footprint through a clear labelling system.
Waste reduction
To further enhance sustainability, the hotel implements waste reduction strategies, adhering to the principles of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” Efforts include food waste management software, partnerships with platforms like Too Good to Go, and comprehensive recycling initiatives. These measures aim to minimize waste sent to landfills and ensure a more sustainable hotel operation.
Radisson RED Oslo City Centre
Radisson Hotel Group has opened Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, its second property to achieve Verified Net Zero status. The hotel, with 118 rooms, flexible meeting spaces, and social areas, underwent a full renovation of the former Park Inn by Radisson to meet Verified Net Zero requirements, verified by TÜV Rheinland.
“With the opening of our first two Verified Net Zero hotels, Radisson Hotel Group demonstrates its commitment to Net Zero 2050, and to showcasing truly sustainable hospitality. For the first time, we focus on reducing emissions from energy, operations and the supply chain. As we face the evolving challenge of climate change, Radisson Hotel Group is taking an essential step in reshaping the future of hospitality, one Verified Net Zero hotel at a time.” – Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group
The certification covers the elimination of Scope 1 and 2 energy emissions and significant reductions in Scope 3 operational emissions. Remaining emissions are offset through carbon removal certificates via Nature Based Solutions in partnership with Agreena.

“Pioneering the first two Verified Net Zero hotels is a significant milestone for Radisson Hotel Group. By transforming hotels in operation to Verified Net Zero status, we are demonstrating that Net Zero conversion hotels are not only possible, they are essential. With 80% of the buildings that must reach Net Zero by 2050 already built, it is critical that we move quickly to transform existing properties. We are happy to be able to deliver the pinnacle of sustainable hospitality to our guests.” – Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group
The hotel’s sustainability measures include:
– 100% renewable energy from electricity and district heating sourced from waste-to-energy and data center heat recovery.
– Low-carbon menus developed with Klimato, reducing recipe carbon footprints.
– Zero-waste initiatives, including food waste tracking, community food apps, and extensive recycling.
– Sustainable amenities such as bulk bathroom products, glass water bottles, and digital tools to reduce paper use.
“Radisson Hotel Group has always been a pioneer, right from the time when we opened the first design hotel in Copenhagen in the 60ies. Now we are pioneering again with Verified Net Zero. Radisson RED Oslo City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel, demonstrates that energy-efficient transformations are possible for existing buildings. We aim to provide memorable experiences that support guests’ expectations for responsible stays, with every aspect—from design to service.” – Tom Flanagan Karttunen, COO, Leased Hotels for Radisson Hotel Group.
Radisson RED Oslo City Centre combines contemporary design with a focus on sustainability. The hotel offers guests a modern and stylish atmosphere, while still prioritizing energy-efficient and waste-reducing operations.
Other notable examples is also Radisson Hotel Group’s midscale design-focused lifestyle brand Prizeotel, that in 2023 launched prizePromise, a sustainability commitment that provides a holistic approach to sustainability, when this has to be applied on the hotels.
The launch of these two hotels signals Radisson Hotel Group’s ongoing commitment to sustainable hospitality and sets the stage for further advancements as the company works toward its long-term environmental goals.
