Due to the prevalent upper air cyclonic circulation over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off south Odisha now lying over south Odisha and its neighbourhood, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted heavy to very heavy rain and lightning in several districts of the State during the next four days starting July 23.

The IMD has issued an Orange Warning in these districts between July 23 and July 27.
In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD regional centre said, “A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around 24th July, 2025. The trough from Gangetic West Bengal to south interior Odisha across Jharkhand at 0.9 Km above mean sea level has become less marked.”

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.
Yellow Warning: (Be Aware)- Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore.
For Tuesday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 22.07.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 23.07.2025)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha.
