The Los Angeles Rams comfortably defeated the San Francisco 49ers with a dominant offensive performance, putting up 42 points and taking full advantage of San Francisco’s depleted defense behind a standout game from Matthew Stafford, who continues to build an early MVP résumé.
San Francisco’s playoff chances took a noticeable hit with the loss, and to make matters worse, Rams legend Aaron Donald added fuel to the fire by taking a pointed shot at Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers afterward.
Aaron Donald Takes Aim at 49ers As Rams Dominate
The Rams selected Donald in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and went on to become one of the best defensive players of his generation. He spent all 10 years of his career in Los Angeles, winning three Defensive Player of the Year awards, earning eight All-Pro selections, and playing an integral role in the Rams’ Super Bowl victory.
As the Rams dismantled the 49ers on Sunday, the 34-year-old was fired up and took a shot at San Francisco on X. “Belt to a** hahaha good s*** Rams,” he wrote.

The 49ers’ season has been even tougher than expected. Unlike in 2024, when things simply fell apart on the field, this year’s struggles stem from injuries that have left the defense depleted and without its key players, Fred Warner and Nick Bosa.
That reality was on full display against the Rams, who exposed the current weaknesses of San Francisco’s defense, particularly in the secondary. While their division rivals continue to roll, the 49ers are hanging their hopes on the return of players like Ricky Pearsall and Brock Purdy.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s win improved the Rams to 7–2 and kept them tied with the Seattle Seahawks atop the NFC West. Stafford also reached 25 passing touchdowns on the year with only two interceptions, the last of which came in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles. He also has at least four touchdowns in each of the last three games.
No quarterback has been as efficient as Stafford, who has complete command of the Los Angeles offense, shining with play-action and targeting his tight ends against San Francisco. He completed 24 of 36 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns, once again proving why the team remains a Super Bowl contender under his leadership.
Stafford currently ranks as the 11th-best quarterback in PFSN’s QB Impact metric and is leading the Rams to the second-highest-rated offense in the league. Los Angeles will now prepare for a crucial matchup against the Seahawks next Sunday that could shape the NFC West race.
