Online betting platform ReadyBet has violated Australia’s gambling self-exclusion rules by contacting hundreds of individuals registered with the BetStop program.
In response, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued a formal remedial direction.
The investigation found that ReadyBet sent 273 marketing communications – via push notifications and SMS—to users who had opted into BetStop, a national register allowing people to self-exclude from online and phone betting for three months to life.
Additionally, ReadyBet failed to include required BetStop promotional content in 2,342 push notifications sent through its mobile app, constituting a separate regulatory breach.
As part of the remedial direction, ReadyBet must now conduct a full audit of its marketing practices and systems, including those managed by third-party providers. The company is also obligated to implement mandatory training for staff to ensure future compliance with self-exclusion regulations.
ACMA has reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to monitor licensed wagering operators for compliance with national safeguards.
