RI, ARI, ICDS exams scrapped: Wave of discontent sweeps Odisha; aspirants slam OSSSC

A wave of discontent has swept across Odisha after the cancellation of the RI, ARI, Amin, and ICDS Supervisor recruitment exams by the Odisha Sub-ordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC). Aspirants have expressed deep resentment, alleging negligence and mismanagement on the part of the authorities.

The controversy stems from the involvement of Sify Technologies, a company previously blacklisted for alleged malpractice. During the preliminary exams, many candidates had flagged irregularities linked to Sify and staged repeated protests across the state.

Despite raising concerns with the government and demanding accountability, no immediate action was allegedly taken by OSSSC at the time.

Eventually, the government allowed all candidates from the tainted prelims to appear for the main exam. However, following a court directive citing significant flaws in the examination process, the Commission has now scrapped the entire recruitment process and has been ordered to conduct fresh exams.

Resentment Brewing Among Aspirants

The decision has triggered a fresh wave of protests by aspirants, who now face the burden of starting over, despite having cleared multiple stages earlier. Many are demanding accountability from OSSSC and compensation for the time and effort lost due to administrative failure.

“We have been alleging irregularities in the conduct of the examination and demanding cancellation of the examination. But our demands were not met. We have wasted our time,” alleged an aspirant.

“We have been preparing for the exam for the last one year. Suddenly, the examination was cancelled.  We are running short of time,” alleged another aspirant.

Notably, OSSSC cancelled the preliminary examination for RI (Revenue Inspector), ARI (Assistant Revenue Inspector), Amin, ICDS Supervisor, and Statistical Field Surveyor (SFS) posts.

The Commission’s decision was officially conveyed to the High Court by Advocate General Pitambar Acharya. Following this, the main examination, which was scheduled to be held between August 1 and September 6, has also been called off.

The Commission has further informed that a fresh notification for re-examination will be issued within 14 days.
