Samardeep Singh Gill edges out Tajinderpal Toor to claim back-to-back shot put golds

Samardeep Singh Gill grabbed his second consecutive shot put title when he won the gold medal at the National Open Athletics Championships in Ranchi on Monday. Competing with national record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor among others, Samardeep of Madhya Pradesh won the title on the third day of the event with a best throw of 19.79m.Tajinderpal’s best effort of 19.32m helped him win the silver while Ravi Kumar bagged the bronze with a throw of 18.23m. Samardeep made three consecutive throws above the 19m and grabbed the win with his last throw of the day. He, however, narrowly missed bettering his personal best of 19.82m, which he achieved in Aug this year with a gold medal at the Inter-state Athletics Championships in Chennai. But it was another disappointing show by two-time Olympian Toor.
