Show Some Love for Soulblaze
Solo developer Zein Okko has delayed the early access release of Soulblaze to next year. Alongside this delay, a Kickstarter campaign will launch on August 20, coinciding with the Gamescom trade fair running from August 20 to 24.
Attendees at gamescom will be able to find Soulblaze at the Home of Indies booth in Hall 10.2, where the newest demo build will be fully playable. Furthermore, visitors can meet the developer in person, try out the game, and collect exclusive sticker packs featuring six different in-game creature designs. Completing the full set will reward fans with a free Steam key for the game. You can check out the official gameplay trailer below.
Developed using Godot for Windows, macOS, and Linux, Soulblaze is a single-player creature-collecting roguelite. It features a distinctive balance between charm and strategy. Players capture a variety of hand-drawn creatures, each with its own personality and abilities. Combat incorporates a unique dice-based load-out system, where different dice colors and effects can be upgraded and paired with a creature’s tricks to create powerful synergies.
Progression extends beyond individual runs through persistent upgrades, including the ability to capture your own Starter creatures. For streamers, the game offers Twitch integration, letting viewers adopt their own Animons and interact directly with the player’s journey.
Accessibility is a core focus, with features like screen reader mode ensuring broader inclusivity. The game’s world draws inspiration from 90s retro fantasy. It blends nostalgic elements like flash drives, sticker albums, and marbles with collectible lore presented as comic pages. True to its artisanal roots, Soulblaze is entirely human-made.
With its Kickstarter on the horizon and a fresh demo ready for Gamescom, Soulblaze aims to build anticipation ahead of its rescheduled launch next year.
