The university’s portfolio now includes patents like a photocatalytic process for green hydrogen generation, an automatic transmission switching system for hybrid vehicles and assistive technologies designed to support visually impaired users

SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, has crossed a landmark of over 500 granted patents, the institute said in a statement.
The university’s portfolio now includes patents like a photocatalytic process for green hydrogen generation, an automatic transmission switching system for hybrid vehicles and assistive technologies designed to support visually impaired users.
“A major catalyst in this journey has been the Centre for Intellectual Asset Protection (CIAP), established in 2021. The centre has streamlined the end-to-end patenting process, empowering faculty, students, and researchers to protect and progress their innovations with confidence,” it said in a release.
Industry Collaborations
The patent milestone was achieved at a time when the University is ramping up various industry academia collaborations.
Last month, SRMIST signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schneider Electric for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Human Machine Interface (HMI). In addition its Centre for Electrical Mobility (CEM) and automaker Stellantis collaborated to accelerate innovation, skill development, and the transformation of conceptual breakthroughs into market-ready EV technologies.
