The Pittsburgh Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin have one goal in mind heading into the 2025 NFL season. They want to win a championship.

During the offseason, the Steelers made that goal very clear with their moves. Aaron Rodgers was signed to a one-year contract, which he has claimed will be his last year in the NFL. Outside of that move, Pittsburgh also traded for DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey, and Jonnu Smith.

Not only did the team make those moves, it also signed T.J. Watt to a very lucrative long-term contract extension.

On the outside looking in, the Steelers look to be a serious Super Bowl contender.

With that being said, Tomlin has spoken out and put the NFL on notice. He opened up with a very bold message about his team’s defense on Thursday.

“We feel really good about the prospects of this group. We do,” Tomlin said. “We’ve got to write that story. We’ve got enough talent, we’ve got enough schematics to do big, big things. When I say big things, I’m talking about historic things.”

Putting together a historic defense would give Pittsburgh a fighting chance.

Offensively, the Steelers appear to have the talent to have a special group as well. Rodgers is leading the way with Metcalf as his No. 1 target. Smith and Pat Freiermuth will be quality tight ends for him to work with.

There are some questions at wide receiver behind Metcalf, but it’s still possible for the front office to make a move to improve that position.

Tomlin has always been a hard-nosed defensive coach. Looking at the roster, Pittsburgh fans have good reason to be very excited about the unit.

Led by Watt and Ramsey, the Steelers’ defense will also feature names like Cameron Heyward, Patrick Queen, and Darius Slay. They have a great mixture of veteran talent and dynamic young players.

Should Pittsburgh live up to its full potential, the sky is the limit. The front office made the moves necessary to give the roster a chance to win a championship.

It will be very interesting to see if Tomlin is able to lead the Steelers back to the Super Bowl this year. He has been given the most talent possible. Now, it’s up to him and the team to capitalize on the opportunity they’ve been given.
