Tamil Nadu government has released its 2026 holiday calendar, detailing public and government holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act. All government offices will be closed on notified public holidays and all Saturdays and Sundays.
The government of Tamil Nadu has officially announced the holiday calendar for the year 2026, revealing the dates of both public and government holidays across the state. This announcement ensures transparency and clarity regarding holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, specifying the days applicable for state government offices as well as all commercial and co-operative bank closures across Tamil Nadu.
By providing this detailed schedule, employees, businesses, and banking institutions can plan their work, financial transactions, and public services efficiently throughout the year.
The government has directed that all offices under the control of the Tamil Nadu government will remain closed on:
(a) The dates mentioned in the notification attached to this order excluding the annual closing of bank accounts on April 1, 2026
(b) All Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year 2026.

According to the Tamil Nadu government circular, “Under the ‘Explanation’ to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 (Central Act XXVI of 1881), read with the notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, No.20-25-26, Public-1, dated June 8, 1957, the government of Tamil Nadu hereby declares that, in addition to ‘Sundays’ expressly defined as public holidays in the said ‘’, the following days shall be public holidays for the year 2026.”
