Startup TN, the nodal agency for Tamil Nadu’s Startup and Innovation Policy, in partnership with German football team Borussia Dortmund, will set up India’s first Sports Tech Incubation Centre, Sivarajah Ramanathan, CEO of Startup TN, said.

Ramanathan was speaking at a press meet here in the run up to the Tamil Nadu Global Startup Summit in Coimbatore, later this month.

He added that a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard will be exchanged at the Tamil Nadu Global Startup Summit in Coimbatore, later this month.

Ramnathan said that the Startup Summit in Coimbatore will be a great platform for Tamil Nadu to present itself as a global start-up hub. “We will have both domestic and international start-ups as well as other delegates from over 35 countries sharing their insights,” he added.

Addressing mediapersons here, Tamil Nadu MSME Minister, TM Anbarasan, said that the DMK government has undertaken many policies for the growth of start-ups. “The Chief Minister directly created Startup TN, appointing a Chief Executive Officer and more than 70 staff members, thereby laying the foundation for growth,” he said.

“In 2021, there were 2,032 registered start-up companies in Tamil Nadu. At present, there are 12,171 start-ups registered in the state. Of these, 6,063 companies have women founders. Tamil Nadu now ranks as the third-best state in India for start-ups,” he added.

The two-day start-up conclave, which will be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, aims to connect start-ups, investors, corporates and policymakers, fostering innovation, collaboration and global market access.
