In their first ever such collaboration Tata Power and Tata Motors have set up a co-branded highspeed mega electric vehicle charging hub in Mumbai, with more to follow in other cities.

Launched jointly by the two Tata group firms, the hub – located in the western suburb of Andheri within the premises of The Leela hotel and close to the international airport Terminal 2 – has the ability to charge 16 vehicles simultaneously with speeds of up to 120 kW.

“It is the start of part of our larger vision to set up charging infrastructure across the country,” said Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power. It is touted to be India’s largest mega charging hub.

More such collaborative hubs will be set in Delhi-National Capital Region, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.

Eligible customers of Tata EVs will get a discount of up to 25 per cent on the tariffs and priority access to the chargers.

The infrastructure can be used not only for Tata vehicles but also for all other electric vehicles and will be powered through solar, wind and hybrid energies.

Green charging

Tata Motors already has mega charging hubs across the country, while Tata Power has over 1,000 green charging points spread across Mumbai.

Sinha said Tata Power would be working with other auto original equipment makers for similar collaborations. Similar charging infrastructure will be explored for trucks and buses.

While the existing portfolio of assets of Tata Power will be used for providing power, Sinha said that new assets will also be created.
