This is not a drill! Taylor Swift’s 12th album is imminent, with the star announcing it on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce’s, New Heights podcast.
As you may know, speculation was rife that Taylor was about to announce something on Monday after her official fan account, Taylor Nation, shared a series of photos of the star wearing orange on her record-breaking Eras tour alongside the caption “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…’ ❤️🔥”
Shortly afterward, New Heights posted a teaser photo for a mystery guest, and the figure’s silhouette looked suspiciously like Taylor:
Then, at 12:12 a.m. ET on Tuesday, which is the 12th August, Taylor’s upcoming project was confirmed in a social media clip for New Heights.
Think you’re Blondie’s biggest fan? Put your ~reputation~ to the test.
In the video, Taylor is sitting next to Travis and tells his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce: “So I wanted to show you something…”
It’s worth noting that the cover art for the album was blurred in the announcement, which was posted to New Heights’, Taylor Nation’s, and Taylor’s official Instagram page simultaneously, with Taylor Nation’s caption reading: “At 12:12 on the 12th, TS12 finally got a name: The Life of a Showgirl. ❤️🔥 More info soon… pre pre-order the album & pre pre-scream in the meantime!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Meanwhile, New Heights and Taylor’s caption reads: “Posted at 12:12 on the 12th. ❤️🔥 Tay’s 12th album is called………… pre pre-order now at TaylorSwift.com”
And the double use of the word “pre” in both has led to some fans speculating that we might be getting a double album.
Taylor has since changed her Instagram profile picture to a green background with a closed orange padlock on it, and her website now follows the same color scheme.
A release date is also yet to be revealed, although the website does say that the items will be shipped before October 13, with the added caveat: “This is not the release date, official release date to be announced.”
The Life of a Showgirl news comes just 15 months after Taylor released her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, and three months after she revealed that she’d bought back her masters so would not be releasing her own version of her albums Reputation or Taylor Swift, although she did tease that there are vault tracks available for both.
Taylor’s full appearance on the New Heights podcast will drop tomorrow, where I’m sure we’ll find out some more about her upcoming music. In the meantime, you can watch the teaser clip below — be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments!
