Tejas Networks has secured IP routing equipment contracts for seven of the 12 BharatNet Phase III packages announced to date, making it the largest supplier in the government’s flagship rural broadband initiative.
The Tata Group company will deploy over 50,000 indigenously designed TJ1400 routers across 57,000 gram panchayats and 2,000 blocks in nine states and five union territories, including Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and some northeastern states.
BharatNet Phase III, approved in August 2023 with a ₹1.39 lakh crore budget, aims to upgrade India’s rural middle-mile network using IP-MPLS technology to connect approximately 164,000 gram panchayats with high-speed broadband.
