The Telangana Government has approved the draft Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025, which is aimed at protecting the interests of thousands of gig and platform workers working for various e-commerce and cab aggregators.
Announcing this here late in the evening after the Cabinet meeting, G Vivek Venkataswamy, the Minister for Labour, Employment, Training, and Factories of Telangana, said the bill will be introduced in the upcoming Assembly session.
The bill proposes a board comprising representatives from the stakeholders to discuss and make decisions. “The companies will have to depute an officer each. They can also flag the issues faced by them,” he said.
Mandatory registration
All the gig and platform workers are required to register their names with the board. It also proposes to set up a welfare fund and a grievance redressal framework.
Union welcomes move
Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) Founder-President Shaik Salauddin has welcomed the Cabinet decision to approve the bill.
Stating that it’s a transformative initiative, he said the union would collaborate with the Government to ensure the effective implementation for all gig and platform workers.
