Projects including the Musi River rejuvenation, the development of Future City, the industrial collaborations along with upcoming data centres and global capability centres would transform Hyderabad into a global hub

The Telangana Government has prepared a large-scale plan to meet the electricity needs aligned with the future growth required for the Gross State Domestic Product (SGDP) which also calls for greater investments, according to Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu

“With the goal of transforming the State into a $3-trillion dollar economy by 2047, we have formulated corresponding power sector strategies. Only when the productive sectors grow on a large scale will there be massive output that contributes to GSDP,’’ Mallu told newspersons in a press conference here on Saturday.

Efforts were on to ensure required electricity supply to key sectors of agriculture, manufacturing and services and increase the per-capita electricity consumption, matching it with benchmarks in developed countries,’’ he said.

“For Telangana to grow into a 3-trillion-dollar economy, the GSDP must grow at 30 percent annually. For such GSDP expansion, electricity consumption must increase by at least 10 per cent every year. Based on these calculations, Telangana will need over 1,39,310 MW of power capacity by 2047.’’ Mallu said, adding that greater investments were needed in the power sector.

Telangana’s current installed power generation capacity stands at 27,769 MW. State Government projects including the Musi River rejuvenation, the development of Future City, the industrial collaborations along with upcoming data centres and global capability centres would transform Hyderabad into a global hub.

“Keeping these future needs in mind, we have prepared power sector plans accordingly,’’ the Deputy Chief Minister added.
