Texas Longhorns head coach Sean Miller shared developments on the health of two key contributors as the 2025-26 season approaches. Guard Tramon Mark and forward Lassina Traore have been sidelined due to injuries. With their comeback in sight, Mark and Traore are focused on positioning Texas for a winning campaign in 2025. Both are expected to have major roles in shaping the team’s success when the season tips off.
Sean Miller Reveals Injury Status of Texas Stars Tramon Mark and Lassina Traore
Texas head coach Sean Miller provided a significant update on the health of two of the Longhorns’ most important players, guard Tramon Mark and forward Lassina Traore, during a recent interview with Jeff Howe and Gerry Hamilton.
Miller, who is entering his first season leading Texas, addressed the injuries that impacted last year’s roster.
“We’ve had some real key season-ending injuries…so you do the best you can,” Miller said, before noting that health is “certainly a part of this” and that the program “needs some good fortune” this season.
On Mark, Miller confirmed the veteran guard is ready for a fresh start after shoulder surgery.
“Tramon had labrum surgery, missed the summer, but only missed it because he was rehabbing and he was getting stronger. And I think that he’s healthy right now. We’re hoping he can have one of those great start-to-finish years healthwise,” Miller explained.
Mark finished last season with 10.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He finished the year as Texas’ lead initiator and showcased versatility across multiple positions. Entering his final year of eligibility, he is expected to run the point in Miller’s offense, with his production likely to increase given the team’s lack of backcourt depth.
As for Traore, Miller noted the 6-foot-10 forward is finally cleared after missing all of last season with a preseason knee injury.
“Traore, he’s a year since his injury and he’s been cleared and it’s nice to see him back out there,” Miller said.
Traore transferred from Xavier but never saw the floor due to his setback. At Long Beach State in 2023-24, he posted 11.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, emerging as one of the Big West’s most consistent big men.
His physical presence will be crucial for Texas, which lacked size inside last year. Miller plans to use him across both power forward and center spots.
The Longhorns will need both veterans to be healthy as Miller begins his tenure in Austin. He brings a 487-196 career record over 20 seasons, having previously coached at Xavier and Arizona. Texas opens against No. 4 Duke on November 4, 2025, in Charlotte at the Dick Vitale Invitational, tipping off at 7:45 p.m. CT on ESPN.
