‘The Adjustment Bureau’ Writer-Director George Nolfi Adapting His 2011 Film With Graphic India

General

EXCLUSIVE: The Adjustment Bureau writer-director George Nolfi is working with Sharad Devarajan‘s Graphic India on an Indian-language version of the film.

The original The Adjustment Bureau from 2011 starred Matt Damon and Emily Blunt in a romantic science-fiction thriller that grossed over $127M. It followed the story of a politician and a dancer whose love challenges a mysterious organization that controls human destiny.

Nolfi is known as the screenwriter of the Ocean’s 12 and Bourne Ultimatum pics; the writer, producer and director of The Banker, which starred Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie; and director of Elevation, which also starred Mackie. He has also been developing 24 into a feature film and took a pass at the script for Daisy Ridley-starrer Rise of Skywalker, as we reported in January.

Nolfi is developing the new version, with Graphic India CEO and founder Devarajan producing alongside him.

“India’s rich philosophical and spiritual traditions offer an incredible canvas to explore the themes of destiny and free will that are at the heart of The Adjustment Bureau,” said Nolfi. “Knowing Sharad well, and his work transforming global properties while staying true to their essence, I couldn’t imagine a better creative partner to bring this uniquely Indian vision to life.”

Devarajan is the co-creator, producer and writer on the ongoing animated series The Legend of Hanuman, which released its sixth season this April. He also co-created and wrote last year’s Baahubali: Crown of Blood, which was produced with acclaimed filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli and Arka Mediaworks. Devarajan also previously co-created the Indian Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar. That character was featured in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Devarajan added: “Having known George for years, I’m absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with him on this exciting Indian reimagining of the amazing film he created. The concepts of karma, dharma, and the eternal dance between fate and choice are deeply embedded in Indian culture. How love and determination can rewrite the very fabric of destiny is a theme that has inspired storytelling for thousands of years, making India the perfect setting for a reimagined version of The Adjustment Bureau.”
