The DJI Neo 2 launches globally with a more capable camera and more advanced navigation

Technology

The DJI Neo 2 is now available in most markets around the world after launching in China at the end of October. A notable exception is the US – all new DJI products skip the US due to the current political and market conditions.

Here are the prices for everyone else – note that the price in Canada is given in USD rather than CAD. We’re not sure whether this is a typo or a wink and a nod at how US customers can acquire the Neo 2 (but you probably shouldn’t since there will be no after-market support in the US).

DJI Neo 2 Price
Canada USD 230
UK GBP 210
Europe EUR 240
Japan JPY 38,400
Australia AUD 410
New Zealand AUD 440

Note that the prices above are only for the drone. The DJI Neo 2 is meant for beginners or people who want to capture drone footage without any fuss – you can control it with gestures and/or a smartphone app.

However, it fully supports more advanced control methods – you can get the Fly More combo for $400/£350/€400, which includes the RC-N3 remote, two extra batteries and a charging hub for three batteries. There’s also the Motion Fly More Combo at $550/£510/€580, which features the DJI Goggles N3 and RC Motion 3 controller for FPV flights.

In case you missed the original launch, here is an overview of the DJI Neo 2. It’s a lightweight drone at 151g (160g with the DJI Neo 2 Digital Transceiver), slightly more than the 135g of the original Neo but well below the 250g limit.

It flies faster – up to 5m/s in sports mode compared to just 2m/s for the old one – and a bit longer (up to 19 minutes vs. up to 18 minutes). It is more resilient to wind too with a Level 5 rating (up to 10.7m/s) compared to Level 4 (8m/s). And you get double the internal storage at 49GB.

The far more advanced sensor suite combines an omnidirectional vision system with forward-facing LiDAR, while the original Neo only had a downward-facing positioning system. This also enables ActiveTrack (with the new Cycling option).

The Neo 2 uses the same 1/2” sensor as its predecessor but brings a wider f/2.2 lens (vs. f/2.6). Even better, the single-axis gimbal was replaced by a more capable 2-axis mechanism (tilt and roll).

Video recording was upgraded to 4K 60fps (up from 4K 30fps) in horizontal mode and 2.7K 60fps (up from 1080p 60fps) in vertical mode. By default, the drone uses a Wi-Fi video transmission system, but you can equip it with DJI’s O4 system, which adds a few extra grams of weight. The Wi-Fi system has a range up to 500m, the O4 system can go out to 10km. Note that the transceiver is sold separately but comes included with the Fly More combos.
