News From the Wider Comics World
- Comic-Con International in San Diego happened! Popverse has all the headlines related to this year’s event. Be sure to check out this year’s Eisner Award winners, too! As for future events, Comic-Con is staying in San Diego at least until 2027, but its future after that point is nebulous.
- Director Christophe Ferreira, who worked on Netflix’s Leviathan series, offered some perspective on the current state of anime.
- Adaptations are in the air! Paul Jenkins’ comic SideKicks is getting an animated TV show, with Jenkins himself developing the series. Meanwhile, the original Captain Underpants novel will receive a manga adaptation in April 2026.
- Smithsonian Magazine did a piece on the Sopwith Camel, best known nowadays as the plane that Snoopy flies in his never-ending battle against the accursed Red Baron.
- The cast of The Boys prequel Vought Rising is filling out.
- Book Riot’s Liberty Hardy rounded up new manga titles coming out from July to September.
- More comics-adjacent, but Star Wars fans can look forward to a special 50th anniversary theatrical rerelease in April 2027.
