With discharge from the Bhavanisagar Dam into River Bhavani continuing at just 100 cusecs, visitors to Kodiveri Anicut were disappointed as the water flow was very thin.
The picturesque waterfall at the anicut, located about 15 km from Gobichettipalayam, attracts tourists not only from various districts but also from Karnataka and a few other States. The anicut is constructed across River Bhavani, and water discharged for irrigation normally flows through it, allowing visitors to bathe and enjoy the spot.
However, since irrigation discharge has been stopped and water is being released only for drinking water purposes, the flow was minimal. Visitors, including Ayyappa devotees, took a bath in the little available water, while most others were disappointed.
The start of the winter vacation for schools added to the crowd on Thursday (December 25, 2025). However, disappointment prevailed among many visitors, who left the anicut without taking a bath. Temporary shops selling fish, snacks, ice cream and fruits also reported poor business due to the low turnout of visitors. “Since irrigation water release has been stopped, visitor arrivals have dropped,” said a fruit seller.
