Bokaro: A two-year-old boy fell into an open drain during heavy rain and was swept away by the strong current near Gandhi Chowk in Giridih.The child’s body was recovered nearly 18 hours later on Sunday by the administration.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening amidst rainfall when the child accidentally slipped into the fast-flowing drain near Gandhi Chowk.

Panic spread through the area, prompting immediate rescue operations. Despite extensive efforts until 1:30 am, the search team was unable to locate the child.The operation was temporarily halted but later resumed due to public pressure, ultimately leading to the recovery of the child’s body several hours later.Following the incident, local residents staged protests on the streets, voicing their anger against the district administration. Most of the frustration was directed at the municipal corporation, with accusations of negligence and poor maintenance of civic infrastructure.In response to the growing outrage, senior officials, including sub-divisional magistrate Shrikant Vispurte, deputy superintendent of police, headquarters, Neeraj Kumar Singh, Sadar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Jeetwahan Oraon, and other police officers arrived at the site.
