Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that he and his US counterpart Donald Trump had reached an understanding on steps to achieve a ceasefire and lasting peace in Gaza and Palestine, following their talks at the White House on Thursday.
“Our meeting was crucial in expressing the collective will to end the massacres in Gaza. During the discussion, President Trump emphasised the importance of halting the fighting and achieving lasting peace,” Erdogan was quoted as saying by AlArabiya.

He added that both leaders discussed concrete measures for establishing a ceasefire across Gaza and Palestine and outlined a framework for sustained peace afterwards.
“We said that the two-state solution was the formula for lasting peace in the region, that the current situation cannot continue.”
The Turkish president also highlighted the significance of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as key for enhancing the global legitimacy of Syria’s new government.
General Erdogan At UNGA
Erdogan wrapped up his visit to New York for the 80th United Nations General Assembly and subsequent meetings in Washington with Trump, calling the trip “constructive, productive, and historic” for Turkey’s diplomatic efforts.
The Turkish president highlighted that this year’s UNGA was largely defined by the crisis in Gaza.
“The genocide in Gaza and the broader Palestinian cause left its mark on this year’s General Assembly,” he said, noting that the United Kingdom, France, and ten other Western nations had formally recognised Palestine.
“These recognition decisions, especially from two UN Security Council members, are historic. With these steps, the number of countries recognising Palestine has surpassed 150. Support for the two-state solution is increasing both in quality and quantity, but the international community must act decisively to turn this into reality,” Erdogan added.
He further criticised Israel’s “reckless steps and occupation policies,” saying they are intended to hinder these efforts.
Erdogan said he personally addressed the Gaza issue during his UNGA speech, in a joint meeting with Trump, and at a high-level conference co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. “We will continue our efforts in this direction,” he affirmed.
