IMD weather forecast: As winter tightens its grip, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of dense foggy conditions in Northern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned there will be widespread dense fog across northern, eastern and northeastern parts of the country. In a weather bulletin issued on December 19, the IMD said Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and Bihar are likely to experience dense to very dense fog conditions during the morning hours of December 20. Similar weather is likely to remain on December 21 as well.
Cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in Telangana, South Interior Karnataka and West Madhya Pradesh on December 20 and 21, the weather department said. On Friday, a thick layer of fog stretching from Punjab to Bihar reduced visibility across the Indo-Gangetic plains. The temperatures have continued to drop across northern and eastern India, intensifying winter conditions.
General Dense fog in North India for next 2 days
The IMD has warned that dense to very dense fog, cold wave conditions, and cold days are likely to continue across North India over the next few days. These conditions are expected to further affect road, rail, and air traffic.
Delhi is likely to witness partly cloudy sky today with dense fog at many places, with very dense fog at isolated places, during the morning hours, the IMD said. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 21 to 23°C and 07 to 09°C respectively.
“Cold Wave conditions very likely over isolated places over Telangana and South Interior Karnataka on 20th & 21st and over West Madhya Pradesh on 20th December. Cold wave to Severe cold wave conditions very likely over isolated places over North Interior Karnataka on 20th & 21st December,” the IMD said.
According to the IMD, dense fog is likely in Punjab during the night and morning hours until December 20. Similar conditions are expected in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, northern Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar until December 21. Eastern Uttar Pradesh may continue to experience dense fog until December 22, with foggy conditions likely to return in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh on December 24 and 25.

Scattered rain and snowfall are expected in the Western Himalayas over the next five days, with heavy rain or snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and nearby areas on December 21. Light rain is expected in Punjab from December 20 to 22. Authorities advise caution while traveling in fog and taking precautions against the cold.
General Ooty weather forecast
Ooty, a popular tourist destination in Tamil Nadu, is likely to witness misty weather today. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 22 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively. “Ground frost is likely to occur at isolated pockets over the higher ranges of Nilgiris district during night/early morning hours. Mist/ Haze is likely to prevail over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area during early morning hours,” according to IMD.
