Karan Johar’s talk show, Koffee with Karan, has been a host for many famous stars; however, there is still a very big and well-known name that is missing from the show’s guest list. And that name is none other than the legendary Indian cricket star, Virat Kohli. Even though Anushka Sharma has appeared multiple times at the show, recently Karan Johar has revealed the reason behind his hesitation to bring on her husband on the show. According to him, the reason stems from the famous Hardik Pandya–KL Rahul controversy. In a recent podcast with Sania Mirza, Karan Johar looked back at the cricket controversy.

Karan Johar on Serving It Up With Sania

In a recent episode of Serving It Up With Sania, hosted by Sania Mirza, the famous director revealed why he has never invited Virat Kohli on the show, despite him being married to the famous actress Anushka Sharma.

During the conversation, Sania first asked him if there’s a celebrity who he wants to bring on the show, “who keeps refusing.” Karan answered the question with Ranbir Kapoor. He said, “He’s come before, but for the last three seasons, he’s said no.”

Ranbir was last seen on the show in 2016, when he appeared along with Ranveer Singh.

Then, Sania continued, asking Johar to name a person who hasn’t ever made it to the couches of Koffee with Karan. The director paused for a while, upon which Sania reminded him of Virat. He then admitted that Virat has never appeared on the show.

Karan said, “I have never asked Virat. And now, I am not asking any cricketers after what happened with Hardik (Pandya) and (KL) Rahul. There are many who I just felt wouldn’t come, so I never asked them in the first place.”

What was the KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya controversy about?

For the unversed, Karan’s statement was about the time when Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul appeared on Koffee With Karan back in 2019. Some of their remarks they made ended up causing outrage, as people called them out for being misogynistic and sexist.

Amid the controversy, the episode had to be pulled off Disney+ Hotstar during that time. They both were also suspended from India’s first ODI against Australia, regardless of their apologies.

Karan had said that he felt somewhat responsible for what they both had to go through.
