Hours after a report surfaced claiming that the FBI “redacted” his name from the Jeffrey Epstein Files, US President Donald Trump has said that he wants to release “everything” about the document that has gained interest even among the Republican leader’s supporters.

His flip-flop on the matter came days after he questioned the “fascination” of his supporters with the case, dubbing it “pretty boring stuff“.

Trump’s remarks came shortly after a Bloomberg report claimed that the FBI deliberately redacted Trump’s name from the recently reviewed Epstein files.

During a review of approximately 1,00,000 pages of records in March this year, nearly 1,000 FBI agents were asked to flag any mention of Trump at the request of attorney general Pam Bondi, three people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

The redacted files were later sent to Bondi, who informed Trump in May that his name featured in the documents, according to the report.

The team in charge of reviewing the large set of records made redactions before the Justice Department and FBI decided last month that releasing any more of the files was not necessary or appropriate.

According to the government, Trump was a private citizen during the Epstein investigation, so he is protected by privacy laws.

The Department of Justice said that the review found no evidence linking Trump to criminal activities, even though his name appeared in Epstein’s flight logs and contact book.

In 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was charged with trafficking minors and other crimes. He was later found dead in the jail, which sparked rumours and conspiracy theories, especially about possible “clients” mentioned in government documents.

“The whole thing is a hoax. They ran the files. I was running against somebody who ran the files. If they had something, they would have released,” Trump said earlier this week.

During his campaign, Donald Trump promised to declassify government records related to Jeffrey Epstein. Pam Bondi, before being nominated as Attorney General by Trump, also pushed for transparency, stating that names should only remain private if they belonged to a child, a victim, or a cooperating witness.

Similarly, FBI Director Kash Patel assured a Senate committee that the public would learn the full truth. On February 27, Bondi hosted a widely publicized event at the White House to unveil the “first phase” of Epstein file releases. Attendees were handed binders labeled “The Epstein Files,” claimed to be newly declassified.

However, the documents, which contained pages mostly from Epstein’s “black book”, had already been made public during Ghislaine Maxwell’s 2021 trial. The release revealed no new information and included names like Trump and his wife Melania, leaving many disappointed and accusing the administration of staging a publicity stunt.

Loyal supporters of Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement have been demanding the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and his deputy Dan Bongino, as they accuse them of going back on their word to release the Epstein Files.
