Several Philadelphia Eagles players got injured in their Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys, and now we’re learning that Will Shipley’s ribs injury might be worse than initially thought. New reports Tuesday suggest Shipley has a fractured rib and he could miss time as a result.
This development helps explain the Eagles trading for Tank Bigsby. In addition to his special teams contributions, Bigsby is now an option as Saquon Barkley’s backup once he gets acclimated. A.J. Dillon will be a fine substitute, but there was a reason Shipley entered the season with a bigger projected role by comparison. Bigsby can definitely step into the RB2 role once he gets familiar with the Eagles’ offense.
Before leaving Thursday night‘s game, Shipley had recorded three carries for 26 yards in the first half. Barkley called Shipley one of the smartest guys in the RB room this off-season and will assuredly be missed while he’s sidelined.
