New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge is heading to the injured list.
On Saturday, Judge was missing from the lineup, and the team’s manager, Aaron Boone, revealed that the superstar was dealing with an elbow injury that was making it difficult to throw.
Rather than place Judge in the outfield in pain or as the designated hitter, Boone opted to sit him and send him in for imaging. While the entirety of the Yankees faithful held their breath, fearing a potential UCL injury, the Yankees were beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies.

After the game, Boone provided the update that indicated Judge would be sent to the injured list with a flexor strain. Judge’s UCL is reportedly intact, which makes this update one of the best case scenarios, all things considered.
The flexor mass is a bundle of muscles that connects from the forearm to the elbow. Injuries to the forearm, specifically the flexor mass, often precede UCL injuries.
The good news is the UCL is fine. Another bit of good news is this kind of injury typically only flares up with throwing, meaning Judge could return as the team’s designated hitter as soon as 10 days from now.
But the bad news is Judge is heading to the injured list, and the Yankees will likely be very careful with the superstar’s arm. As previously stated, a mismanaged flexor strain can very quickly turn into a torn UCL. A torn UCL would take Judge out for the rest of the season and potentially a chunk of next year.
It’s good that the Yankees were able to catch this while the UCL was intact, but it’s even more important that they proceed with caution.
