Zohran Mamdani’s Bollywood Touch In NYC, Walks Off To ‘Dhoom Machale’ During Victory Speech

Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani made history on Wednesday by becoming the youngest and first Indian-American Muslim mayor of New York City. What grabbed the internet’s attention, however, was the Bollywood twist to Mamdani’s victory, as ‘Dhoom Machale’, the title track from the Bollywood movie ‘Dhoom’, played at the end of his first speech following the results.

Mamdani was seen waving at his supporters before walking over to his wife, Rama Duwaji, for a hug as the song plays in the background. He was later joined on stage by his parents – Ugandan scholar Mahmood Mamdani and Indian filmmaker Mira Nair.

The video of ‘Dhoom Machale’ playing at Mamdani’s victory celebration has left the internet stunned. A user on X (formerly Twitter) described it as Mamdani’s “unreal aura”.

“Lol i thought it was edited, BUT IT IS REAL AF!” another user commented.

In his fiery victory speech, Mamdani thanked the new generation of New York for voting him to power. “We’ll fight for you because we are you. The future is in our hands. My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty,” he said.

During his victory speech, the Democratic socialist launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown across the country and said New York will remain the city of immigrants.

“New York will remain the city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants, and as of tonight, clearly led by an immigrant,” he said.

Escalating his fight with Trump, Mamdani said, “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up.”

“To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us… If anyone can show a nation betrayed by Donald Trump how to defeat him, it is the city that gave rise to him,” he added.

Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly threatened to cut federal funding if Mamdani won. The President had targeted the mayor-elect on the campaign trail and in interviews, describing him as a “communist” rather than a “socialist,” the label Mamdani uses to define his politics. “He’s far worse than a socialist,” Trump told, claiming that federal funds would be “wasted” under Mamdani’s leadership.

Mamdani will be sworn in as mayor of New York City on January 1.
